Why do all fashion bloggers post about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I'm new to this whole blogging biz and I'm just now starting to figure out how it all works. One thing I have noticed is that every fashion blogger and their mother is posting about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and unless you've been living under a rock this last month I'm sure you've noticed too;) Here is the bottom line...Bloggers make big money off promoting this sale. Bloggers use affiliate links on their websites and through their social media platforms and when you shop the sale through the links we make a commission. Like I said I'm just getting started with my blog and using different affiliate programs to make money but I want to be 100% transparent with you guys and I don't ever want you to feel like I'm sharing a product or service with you just to make some dough. The honest truth is that I love shopping, fashion, and everything related. One of my favorite things to do is go shopping with friends and help them pick out the perfect outfit. Now I get to do that on my blog and get paid for it! I also see a huge opportunity to relate with women who aren't a size 0. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a size 0 but in a world where almost all models/fashion bloggers are tall and thin and your body is neither.  It's very difficult to determine what style will compliment your body type if your athletic, curvy, short, or plus size. I know I can't relate to every body type but I'd like to think I'm bringing some diversity to the fashion blogging world:)

Im super excited to post about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale for my first time! Ive actually shopped this sale for years. Its the best sale EVER because you get to shop brand-new arrivals at super-sale prices. Even though its still the middle of summer I always look for key pieces to add to my fall wardrobe. This includes boots, sweaters, long sleeves, scarves, and designer bags that I wouldn't normally purchase at full price! For the last 2 weeks I've been shopping the sale on line and a few days ago I went to Nordstrom so I could try on some of the items I've been eyeing online. There are thousands of items in the sale and I've spent hours filtering though them to find my top picks and recommendations. I hope that I've made shopping this sale more enjoyable for you:)

MY TOP PICKS IN ACTIVE WEAR

Every year I purchase Zella leggings at the sale! Most people don't know that the designer of Zella used to work for Lululemon but then decided to start her own line and carry it at Nordstrom. Ive been wearing this brand for years and tell all of my fitness friends about it! The high waisted Zellas are my fave because they last FOREVER! seriously I've had a pair of Zellas that I wore when I was pregnant with Chase. He turns nine this month;)

MY TOP PICKS IN ACCESSORIES

You guys know I'm obsessed with sunglasses, especially by Quay. They are affordable, stylish and high quality! If you don't have a pair, I highly suggest snagging these while they are on sale. Prices go back up August 7th!

MY TOP PICKS IN WOMEN CLOTHING

basics

sweaters/cardigans/jackets

dresses/rompers

my top picks in shoes

Im obsessed with over the knee boots! I bought my first pair 2 years ago at the anniversary sale and fell in love! This year I got these ones by Marc Fisher because they can be worn with skirts, dresses, or rompers for a dressier look or be dressed down with leggings or jeans! If you live in a colder/rainy climate I highly suggest buying these Sorel boots! Like seriously...If you only buy one thing at the sale...BUY THESE!!! I bought the same ones last season in tan and I wore them more than any other boots I own. When you live in the PNW you take your rain boots vey seriously and these were perfect! Not only did they keep my feet warm and dry, they were also so comfy and I got compliments on them every where I went!

MY TOP PICKS IN BAGS

THATS IT! happy shopping babes

Challenge your negative thoughts

I've spent the last ten years of my life letting my mind bully my body. Thats right...I allowed it πŸ™‹πŸΌπŸ™‡πŸΌ‍♀️ no one else had control over my thoughts. Sure, their are outside influences that helped form my negative thoughts but ultimately I held the power. I could go on and on about the things I let myself believe about my body and physical appearance, I could tell you about every drastic measure I took to change they way my body looked but I won't...I want this post to be about how to free yourself from your inner critic.
  • Surround yourself with supportive people! These are friends, family, online communities or mentors who build you up and not tear you down. Someone who believes in you and will cheer you on in life. These are people who won't let you give up when you feel like quitting and genuinely celebrate with you in your victories!
  • STOP COMPARING! "Comparisons make you feel superior or inferior, Neither serve a useful purpose" I'll be the first to admit that I struggle with comparing myself to others but we need to be aware of the complicated mess this can cause within ourselves. Thoughts of not being good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, or successful enough can start to control your headspace if you let them. When I realized how much this was impacting my life and happiness I had to be intentional about catching myself every time I started comparing myself to other. Try it...I think you will be surprised how often it actually happens. Instead of letting someone else's success discourage you, be inspired! Allow them to be your mentors and learn from them. And lastly, find perspective. Everyones lives are completely different and some people have lived though circumstances entirely out of their control. Its never okey to compare the beginning of your journey to ANY point in someone else.
Lastly and most importantly, we have to challenge our negative thoughts!!! Like I said before, YOU are in control of what you let yourself say and believe. I had to start by fighting back against those thoughts and feelings with positive words of affirmation. I know it sounds cheesy and it will feel awkward at fist but it gets easier. We need to create a habit of being kind to ourselves and slowly our thoughts will start to change.

These are a few kinder things to say when you're mean to yourself
  • I'm doing all I can and thats ok!
  • Comparing is a waste of time, I'm beautiful.
  • I am more than a number on a scale
  • I can always improve, I won't quit trying.
  • Mistakes help me learn and grow
  • My life has meaning and purpose
  • I am strong
  • I am a good and worthwhile person
  • I look good because I am good
  • I am a loving person
  • I am in control of my choices
  • I have so much to offer
  • I choose to live a healthy and positive life
  • I am taking things one step at a time
  • I love myself just the way I am
  • My reflection doesn't determine my self worth

What's in my gym bag

Hey Babes! I just got this gorgeous new gym bag from VOORAY and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show you exactly what I bring with me when I go to the gym. My old gym bag was pretty sad...It was a free gift backpack that I got from Victorias Secret. It was too small for all my stuff and I definitely needed a replacement! I choose this one because I how large it is, the beautiful print, and the cool side straps that will hold a yoga mat, towel, or any other bulky items that won't fit in your bag.

How cool is that feature!!! I am using the straps to carry my barbell pad. This is something I don't go to the gym without. I use it primarily on leg day when Im using the smith machine and barbells. It protects your neck and makes doing heavy weighted squats, lunges, hip thrusts etc sooooo much more comfortable on your body. My gym actually has a barbell pad but it is sooooo disgusting, dirty, and stinky that I would never actually use it!I also linked my favorite water bottles below. I love that they don't leak, and you can squeeze that water right into your mouth without opening a lid or flipping a cap;)

Padded and faux fur lined Media Pocket to protect your phone, iPod, or other essentials. This is where I keep my Powerbeats3 so I never forget them at home! Because lets be honest...working out with out music sucks! I really love the Powerbeats because they have incredible sound, they stay on my ears, and they have a battery life of 10 hours!

I typically wear my Shoes into the gym back its so nice to have a place to put my shoes when I'm done at the gym. The floors are gross and I don't want all those germs on the inside of my bag. My favorite shoes are the Adidas Pure Boosts! I have them in multiple colors and have been wearing this style for almost a year now. They have held up great and surprising the white cleans up really easy in the wash machine.

The inside of the bag is super spacious and has enough room for everything I need in the gym as well as my outfit I change into after I finish working out. It also comes with an odor proof bag that I can put all my sweaty gross clothes in so they are stinking up my bag and everything else in it.

These are the things I have in my bag at all times. I always use my own foam roller because the one at the gym is gross and not firm enough for me. I also like to bring my own jump rope that I custom cut to my size. Ive been using rogue for years and they never fail me. I also my loop bands, a resistance band with handles, and my fit girl ankle strap. I use the loop bands for glue engaging exercises and the resistance band for arm toning exercises and to warm up for arm day. The ankle strap isn't that necessary but its super nice to have your own especially if your gym doesn't have one. It makes engaging your muscles so much easier than if your trying to loop your foot into one of the cable machine handles.

I also have my make up bag in my gym bag because most mornings I'm getting dressed and ready at the gym. I usually just bring very basic makeup to keep my routine quick and easy. I like to get in and out of the gym as fast as possible. Having a "no-fuss" routine makes this possible. Ive been using NARS tinted moisturizer for a while now and it gives great coverage without feeling cakey and also has spa 20;) NYX matte bronzer is an all time fave that I've been wearing for years. I have to fill my brows in and I love this product by NYX for a super natural look. Also pictured is a new mascara that I'm trying since getting my false eyelashes taken off and my travel sized hairbrush.

One piece high neck blue swimsuit

Every short girl needs a tall friend! My dear friend Molly gave me this super adorable one piece swimsuit this weekend because of how tall she is it just didn't fit her quite right. Thankfully I'm 5 inches shorter than Molly and it fit PERFECTLY! Its so comfy, flattering, and shows the perfect amount of skin. I am wearing a medium and believe that it runs true to size for size comparison. I found this suite in blue (what I'm wearing) white, black, and beautiful purple color. I also found a very similar suite that is the same brand that I will link below. Happy Shopping Babes!

Real life friends

I love this girl!

Girls trip! How I pack my carry on plus outfit details

3 days before the trip

I start by making mental notes on things that need done before I leave town. Go to the bank, clean the house, wash laundry etc. these notes start off in my head and then I make sure I jot them down somewhere so I don't forget, like in the notes section on my phone, my anylist app, or on a waterproof notepad you keep in your shower. These things are seriously brilliant.

Next I will start planning my outfits and pulling out the clothes I know I want to bring on my trip. This step also includes making sure all my laundry is clean and checking the weather to make sure I pack accordingly. There is nothing worse than not being prepared for the weather!

I will also check my inventory of toiletries. I want to make sure I'm not running low on my travel sized deodorant or hairspray.

2 days before the trip

This is when I really start to focus on my outfits. I hate over packing so I really try and plan out exactly what I will be wearing each day plus the accessories and shoes that go with each outfit. This is by far the most time consuming part of my packing routine. I start by laying out each potential outfit and then trying them on to make sure everything looks good and fits right. For this particular trip I took photos in each outfit and text them to my friends I'm traveling with for their opinions. Then I pick my jewelry and pack it into my Travel jewelry roll If I'm going on a longer trip or a Vegas trip and I know I will being wearing more jewelry I will use this travel jewelry organizer case that is much better for traveling with statements pieces. Now I have to choose shoes for each outfit. THIS IS HARD FOR ME...I try and pack only 3 pairs. A comfy athletic shoe πŸ‘Ÿ (these are my all-time fave) a  neutral sandal (for summer vacations) and a fancy dress up shoe. Sometimes I end up packing more but 3 pairs is always the goal, especially if I'm traveling in a carry on.

this is what happens when your going on a girls trip and you have too many outfit choices ☺️πŸ’•πŸ’πŸΌ

1 day before the trip

I like to make sure I have a minimum of 2 hours set aside for packing the day before my trip. I try to do this during the day because I hate staying up late the night before a trip especially if I have an early flight in the morning.
I start by getting my suitcase  out. I bought this one last year before our trip to Bora Bora an its amazing! I have the carry on size and the checked bag size. Its super lightweight (which means you can pack more) πŸ˜‰ its a 4 wheeler, and the compartments inside are perfect for the way I fold and pack my suitcase.

Travel outfit-

The first outfit I pick out is my travel day outfit. This is probably one of the most important outfit choices. First of all it has to be comfy yet cuteπŸ˜‰ I also try to wear a lot of layers on travel day because I'm usually getting to the airport early in the morning and even in the summer Seattle is still quite chilly. Plus I'm always cold on the plane. For this particular trip I'm packing a pair of shorts to throw in my oversized "purse" πŸ˜‚ because I'm planning on changing out of my leggings when I get to Minnesota.

Fancy Outfit-
  • I would link where I bought the pieces in this outfit but honestly everything is so old and unavailable now that it would do you no good 😊

I'm flying into Minneapolis and meeting up with a bunch of friends that I met on Instagram. I know...it sounds crazy but really its actually very cool! We initially connected through a fitness program called BBG. Overtime we have all become very close. I feel like I know these girls better than some of my friends that live in my hometown that I see all the time. Anywho...that's just a little back story for ya. This outfit is for the night we all fly in and have reservations to go out to dinner and drinks. Its by far the fanciest your gonna see me all weekend because after our night in Minneapolis we are driving to northern Minnesota to spend the weekend at my friend Molly's lake house!

Casual Outfits-
  • shoes
  • Skirt and top are both from TJ Max

  • shoes
  • skirt
  • shirt I got my top on sale at the Abercrombie outlet store but I found this one online that is very similar and on super sale!
  • earrings

Swimwear and Cover ups-
  • swimsuit you guys!!! this swimsuit has been restocked again...in all sizes and colorsπŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜ I can't believe how many of you purchased this suit after I linked it in one of my first blog posts.
  • shoes and sunnies linked above
  • cover up is last season and no longer available:(

  • swimsuit
  • shoes and sunnies linked above

  •  swimsuit same style different print

  • cover up is from Victorias Secret last season
  • swimsuit

Now that I have all my outfits and accessories chosen I start packing my jewelry!
Pictured above is the jewelry roll that I use for short trips. I have a few tips for packing my jewelry to keep it organized and not a tangled mess.

  • use an old head band to organized your stud earrings and keep them from getting lost. You could easily use and old ribbon or piece of fabric as well.
  • use a carabiner to keep your bracelets from getting tangled
  • use straws to keep your delicate chains from getting tangled

all packed and ready to roll

I have all my reusable travel containersfavorite travel hanging organizer and travel sized toiletries organized in the same cupboard so I know exactly where everything is.

To make sure I don't forget anything I do a mental rundown of my daily beauty routine. Starting with my morning routine
  • toothbrush
  • travel toothbrush case
  • toothpaste
  • floss
  • body wash
  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • razor

I use a binder clip on my razor to protect myself and my things from the blades
I pack my skincare products in small reusable containers because most of my products are more than the allowed 3.4 oz
I decided to go heat free on my hair this summer so I won't be packing a straighter, curling iron, or blowdryer for this trip but these are the heat free hair products I'm bringing with me
  • travel hairbrush
  • travel sized hairspray
  • clear elastics these are my favorites because they don't break easily and the pack comes with 3 different sizes. I have been braiding my hair a lot since going heat free and these clear elastics are essential for braided hairstylesπŸ˜‰
Now its time to take everything I've planned out and fit it into this carry on suitcase...do you think I can do it???

Do you doubt me????
.

HA! I told you I could do itπŸ˜‰
Watch this video to see exactly how I fold my clothes.Kon Mari Method

One of the features I love about this suitcase is that I can zip my clothes separate from my shoes and toiletries. Just in case something explodes during the flight I feel a little less stressed about my clothes getting ruined. Sometimes I fold my swimsuits but I had the extra room so I put them in this zipper compartment.
I use the other side of my carry on for shoes and toiletries. I like to have my liquids accessible so I can easily pull them out when going through security.

Usually I leave my toiletries out because I will need them in the morning to get ready but since my flight is so early I plan on doing my make up at the airport after Ive gone through security;) however I will be brushing my teeth and washing my face before I leave the houseπŸ˜‰

The last thing I do is pack my "purse" which is actually a Stella and Dot Getaway bag.

It can fit so much stuff and actually unzips in the middle to extend even bigger. (this is a very important feature when you go shopping while on vacation and return with more stuff than you packed) I will put my small purse inside this bag so the people that check your bags at the gate don't get upset that I have too many bagsπŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ»

My in flight essentials-

  • hand cream
  • shine control (so I can freshen up my face before getting of the plane)
  • chapstick
  • lipstick
  • hand sanitizer
  • eye drops (my eyes get super dry and irritated on planes)
  • Advil
  • travel size perfume (this is one of my favorite scents but the full sized perfume is sooooo expensive that I opted for the travel size)

Lastly I pack my camera and laptop bags. I make sure I have all my chargers, batteries, and accessories in these bags.

And thats it! well actually the last thing I do before I go to bed is take 1/2 an anti anxiety medication to help me sleep. After 10 years of struggling with travel induced anxiety I finally went to my doctor and she prescribed me medication to take before flying.

I hope you all found this helpful...I love traveling but hate packing! I find that when I'm organized I feel less stressed and it makes travel day much smoother! Please comment and lmk if you have any questions or if I missed any important details.

-Lexie-

P.S. I hope all my Insta followers are ready for some BBG girls gone wild...OMG JUST KIDDING! but seriously its gonna be so much fun meeting these girls for the first time!
